Photo Week is an important rehearsal for our Express Yourself 2026 concert. It gives students the opportunity to practise their hair and make-up, meet their backstage group leaders, and allows us to check costumes and make any final adjustments before concert day.

Please Note: Parents are not permitted inside the building during Photo Week unless they are an approved volunteer. Please sign your child in at the front entrance at their allocated arrival time and collect them at their scheduled pick-up time, just as you will for the concert.

Hair Instructions & Checklist

Students will require one or two hairstyles, depending on the classes they are attending. For those requiring both hairstyles, please arrive in the hairstyle required for your first class.

High Ponytail

Required for Jazz, Tap & Hip Hop

1. Dampen the roots using a spray bottle of water. Hair is often easier to manage if it hasn't been freshly washed.

2. Apply a generous amount of strong gel to the roots.

3. Brush the hair tightly back and upwards.

4. Secure a high ponytail at the crown using 2–3 strong hair elastics.

5. Ensure the ponytail is visible from the front when viewed at eye level so accessories can be seen on stage.

High Ballet Bun

Required for Ballet & Contemporary

Please Note: Do not use hair donuts. Ballet buns should be flat rather than rounded.

1. Create a high ponytail following the ponytail instructions above.

2. Twist the ponytail and wrap it around the elastic. Fine hair can be lightly back-combed first for extra volume.

3. Cover with a bun net, tucking all hair inside before wrapping the excess net underneath the bun.

4. Shape the bun into a large, flat circle.

5. Secure first with U-pins, then bobby pins until completely firm.

6. Finish with gel or hairspray to smooth flyaways.

Makeup Guide

1. Prepare the Face
Begin with a clean, moisturised face. Apply primer if available, followed by a matte foundation that is slightly darker than the natural skin tone. Blend well and use concealer where needed.

2. Set the Makeup
Lightly dust translucent powder over the face to reduce shine and help makeup last longer.

3. Add Colour
Apply blush to the cheeks, blending towards the temples.

4. Eyes
Apply a light eyeshadow over the eyelid, a medium brown through the crease and a darker brown to the outer corner. Highlight the inner corner and under the brow with a light shade. Black eyeliner is optional. Finish with several coats of mascara.

5. Lips
Line the lips, then apply your MAPA Longwear Matte Liquid Lipstick (Colour #17) evenly.

6. Final Check
Ensure everything is well blended and clearly visible. Stage lights wash out colour, so makeup should be more defined than everyday makeup.

Removing Makeup: Use makeup wipes or a gentle makeup remover after Photo Week or the concert. If you don't have makeup remover, coconut oil is a great alternative.

Photo Week is a compulsory part of our showcase preparation for all performers. It provides students with the opportunity to rehearse in front of an audience, practise their hair and makeup before the concert, ensure all costume requirements are ready, and check that costumes fit correctly ahead of the performance.
